City manager Michael O'Neill announced at last nights AGM that he has made a signing offer to 'trialist' Ross Gardiner who recently impressed against Hibs in a friendly at Glebe Park on Tuesday.
Gardiner, only 20 years of age, can play at either left back or centre half and is the son of former Dundee Utd and Aberdeen goalkeeper John Gardiner.
Ross trained with Aberdeen prior to joining Dundee Utd's youth system, initially as an under 14 player.
After turning professional in 2003, Gardiner became a regular in United's youth team and subsequently the reserve side.
Having previously been listed as a substitute for the first team on a number of occasions, he was given his debut in an SPL match away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in April 2006 and made 4 appearances for the Dundee Utd first team.
Gardiner was also on loan to Arbroath for part of last season and the defender was released by Dundee Utd at the end of the season.
He gained international recognition in 2004 after representing Scotland at U18 level.
