Brechin City make the trip north to face Forres Mechanics at Mosset Park tomorrow evening with the incentive of moving to the top of the table with a victory.
With the title race finely poised, the stakes could hardly be higher as City look to take full advantage of their game in hand over current leaders Brora Rangers.
Andy Kirk’s side head into the fixture in confident mood following an impressive performance against Nairn County on Saturday and will be eager to build momentum as they head into the final 4 games.
However, they will be under no illusions about the challenge awaiting them. Forres have proven stubborn opponents in recent meetings at Mosset Park, where the Can Cans have picked up a win and a draw in their last two home encounters with City.
TEAM NEWS
Brad McKay, Adam Hutchinson, Mitch Taylor and Cillian Sheridan had all missed City’s victory over Nairn County at the weekend and they will continue to be assessed ahead of tomorrow’s fixture with Andy Kirk unlikely to take any unnecessary risks.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Manager Andy Kirk was pleased with his sides’ showing at Station Park on Saturday. He said, “We’ve had some good bits in games recently and it’s been a case of trying to put that together for 90 minutes which is what we did on Saturday I thought. Although the result wasn’t great against Formartine, there were parts of the performance and what the players were trying to do was more like what I would like to see us doing.
“We had a lot of the ball on Saturday and created some dangerous chances and could have possibly had one or two more. The goals we scored were of an excellent standard and if we can create the chances then we know the likes of Grady can finish them.
“When players miss out through injury then we have players that come in and want to impress and that’s why we have a squad. The likes of Dugald Farquhar came in on Saturday and I thought he was great. The games have definately helped Kieran Inglis who is getting fitter and fitter by the week and he links everything together for us. Calvin Beattie is a young player with loads of energy and has good quality on the ball.“
Looking ahead to tomorrow’s match, Andy commented, “The players understand that level of performance on Saturday is what will help us be successful at the end of the season and we need to keep that in mind for tomorrow’s game in order to get the 3 points. We can’t control what happens elsewhere so we just have to try and win every game in front of us and if we do that then it will be enough for us to be Champions.
“Tomorrow now becomes our biggest game of the season and based on the performance on Saturday, the players should be full of confidence and looking forward to the game.”

LAST TIME OUT
City were 4-1 winners with an impressive performance against Nairn County at Station Park on Saturday. Grady McGrath opened the scoring midway through the first half, before doubling the advantage with a header shortly before the hour mark. Almost immediately after, Nairn were reduced to 10 men when skipper Fraser Dingwall was given a straight red for denying a goalscoring opportunity. McGrath completed his hat-trick with 13 minutes remaining before substitute Ben Armour netted a 4th late on. Ben Kelly headed in a consolation for the home side in stoppage time but it did little to take the shine off an excellent result for City.
Forres meanwhile were also in action at the weekend as they went down 1-0 to Keith at Kynoch Park. Zak To netted the only goal of the game for the Maroons 5 minutes before the break, with Forres keeper Sean McCarthy keeping the scoreline down to 1 when he saved a second half penalty from Nathan McKeown.

The last meeting between the sides saw City deliver an emphatic 6–2 victory over the Can Cans at the Carnegie Fuels Stadium at Glebe Park, showcasing a dominant and clinical attacking display. Despite naming a youthful starting 11, City started fast and took an early lead through Mitch Taylor, setting the tone for a first half in which they created numerous chances. Finlay Allan doubled the advantage before half-time, although a defensive mistake allowed Calum Frame to pull one back for Forres just before the break.
The home side quickly reasserted control in the second half, with Grady McGrath restoring the two-goal cushion. Although Frame scored again to briefly reduce the deficit, Brechin responded with Allan grabbing his second before further goals from Kieran Sweeney and substitute Cillian Sheridan sealed a comprehensive win.
