City make another long journey north tomorrow afternoon to face Nairn County as we enter the crucial final 5 matches of the Highland League campaign.
Andy Kirk’s side will be eager to return to winning ways following Wednesday evening’s stalemate against Formartine United. With little margin for error now, City know a strong finish is essential to achieving their ambitions of winning the title.
City will come up against a Nairn side that has proven difficult to predict throughout the campaign. Despite struggling to build any sustained winning momentum, they have also avoided any real poor runs of form.

After coming off injured in midweek, the trio of Cillian Sheridan, Adam Hutchinson and Brad McKay will be assessed ahead of the game, along with Mitch Taylor who missed the draw against Formartine United.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the goalless draw against Formartine United in midweek, Manager Andy Kirk commented, “We’re disappointed because we wanted to win the game but there were aspects that I was pleased with. We started the game fairly well but we didn’t create much in the first half. Second half I thought we dominated but again we were limited to half chances and we didn’t test the goalkeeper enough.
“We defended well at times and we had to deal with a bit of pressure from Formartine especially in the first half. They have some decent players and they are a strong team to play against and good on the counter attack as well. Julian (Wade) is quick and caused us plenty of problems.
“We had to tweak the shape because we lost Cillian Sheridan and Adam Hutchinson to injury and we probably took about 10-15 minutes to adjust to that. Half time allowed us to settle us down and second half I thought we controlled much of the proceedings but we just couldn’t create enough chances to win the game.“
Ahead of tomorrow’s trip to face Nairn County, Andy added, “Our situation hasn’t changed and if we win our final 5 fixtures then we win the league. We have to believe that is still possible and we just have to take it game by game and see what we can do. It’s going to be difficult at Nairn on Saturday as they are a decent side and it’s another fixture away from home but if we can get the win then it keeps the pressure on.”

City were in midweek action but had to settle for a share of the spoils at home to Formartine United. The visitors had the better of the opening 45 but were unable to get their noses in front at the break. Despite an improvement from City in the second period, they were unable to create enough clear cut opportunities to win the game.
Nairn’s last outing came last weekend as they edged out Strathspey Thistle 2-1 at Station Park. Calum Mackay opened the scoring for the hosts in the 34th minute before Andrew Macleod equalised for the Jags shortly after the hour mark. Ben Barron struck for Nairn eight minutes from time to earn all 3 points.

Brechin City 3-2 Nairn County | 24th January 2026 (Highland League Cup)
The last meeting between the sides saw City secure their place in the semi-finals of the R Davidson Highland League Cup with a dramatic 3–2 win over Nairn County at Balmoral Stadium, sealed by a stoppage-time strike from substitute Mitchell Findlay.
The match was relocated at short notice due to a waterlogged Glebe Park, but Brechin started strongly despite a four-week break and the return of manager Andy Kirk. Although they dominated early chances, Nairn took the lead through Fraser Dingwall after a goalkeeping error from Ruaridh Lynch. Brechin responded well, equalising before half-time when Grady McGrath converted a penalty.
In the second half, Brechin continued to control proceedings and went ahead through Cillian Sheridan’s close-range finish just after the hour mark. However, Nairn equalised again late on with a long-range effort from Andrew Greig, setting up a tense finish. Brechin kept pressing and were rewarded in the closing moments when Findlay capitalised on defensive hesitation to fire home the winner, capping a deserved victory.
