City return to the Carnegie Fuels Stadium at Glebe Park tomorrow afternoon for the final home league fixture of the season, as we welcome Nairn County in what will be another important afternoon in the Highland League title race.
It will be the second meeting between the sides in the space of just seven days, with City knowing that another three points could prove crucial ahead of a midweek trip to Brora.
Having climbed to the top of the table in midweek, City will now look to remain there as we head into the final 3 fixtures of the season.
TEAM NEWS
Ethan Crombie will return to the squad after missing the last two matches whilst Andy Kirk is hopeful of having 1 or 2 more bodies back from injury, albeit tomorrow may come too soon.
Andy commented, “There is a lot of positive signs and improvement with the players that are currently missing but it may be a push for the weekend in terms of being safe. One or two could be involved in the squad but we also need to careful that we have them available for next Wednesday and Saturday too as they will be important too.”
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the victory over Forres in midweek, Manager Andy Kirk commented, “It was never going to be the same performance as the one against Nairn. It was another long day of travelling and a difficult pitch but the most important thing was the 3 points. We were a bit unfortunate at times and Grady’s goal in the first half was onside and we had another couple of opportunities that we probably should have done better with.
“When you play teams at this stage of the season that have little to play for, they can throw more caution to the wind and Forres played with a front 3 and kept them high. Later on in the game they put more players in the front line. We’re at the point where we need to win games and be clever in how we achieve that. We didn’t play as well as we can but we battled away. Fair play to Forres as they gave us a tough game.”
Dugald Farquhar netted his first City goal which proved to be the winner with Andy adding, “Full credit to Dugald – it’s been difficult to get guys like him into the team and be able to see what he is capable of. A situation arose against Nairn where we had a few injuries and we thought Dugald would give us a bit of balance on the left side and I thought he was excellent and then on Wednesday night he battled away and it was great for him to get his goal. He’s filled me with a lot of confidence with the way he’s come in and played so I’m delighted for him.”
Looking ahead to the final home league fixture of the season against Nairn County tomorrow, he said, “We keep saying it but we just need to take each game at a time because they are coming thick and fast. Tomorrow we’re at home and hopefully we can have a bit more of the ball and play the way we like to play and hopefully we can come away with the 3 points and still be top of the league at the end of the game. I’ve warned the players that it may not be the same Nairn team as we faced last week and it could become difficult.”

LAST TIME OUT
Both sides were in midweek action as City ground out a crucial 1-0 victory over Forres Mechanics courtesy of Dugald Farquhar’s goal midway through the first half.
Nairn meanwhile travelled to face Turriff on Wednesday where they found themselves 3-0 down after just 47 minutes. The wee County battled back through with goals from Ben Kelly and an own-goal from Owen Kinsella set up a grandstand finish.

You don’t have to look back far for the last meeting as the two sides clashed on league duty last Saturday. Despite missing a host of experienced player, City put in one of their best performances of the season to come away comfortable winners. Grady McGrath opened the scoring for City midway through the first half and he grabbed his second early in the second period. Almost immediately following the goal, Nairn were reduced to 10 men when Fraser Dingwall saw red for hauling down McGrath on the edge of the box, denying a goalscoring opportunity.
McGrath headed in for his hat-trick, before substitute Ben Armour nodded in a 4th five minutes from time. City’s hopes of a clean sheet were dashed two minutes into stoppage time when Ben Kelly headed home, despite Andy McNeil getting a hand to it.
