Brechin City return to action tomorrow afternoon as Musselburgh Athletic make the trip to the Carnegie Fuels Stadium at Glebe Park for the first time, with Andy Kirk’s men looking to make it four wins on the bounce in the Lowland League East.

Despite having a number of key players unavailable, the squad have shown great strength and determination in recent weeks to continue picking up important victories in the league.

Visitors Musselburgh Athletic head into the fixture sitting 12th in the table, having picked up just one victory from their opening five matches.

TEAM NEWS

City are likely to have much the same availability as last weekend with Kieran Inglis, Spencer Moreland, Kyle Bell, Euan Spark and Adam Hutchinson all sidelined whilst Corey Kirk will be assessed ahead of the game.

MANAGERS COMMENTS

Reflecting on the 2-0 victory over Civil Service Strollers last weekend, Manager Andy Kirk commented, “These games are always difficult because we don’t know the strength of the opposition we are playing and the ground we are playing at but I thought we definitely deserved the win and probably unfortunate not to score another goal at least. We did a lot of good things in the game but still a lot of aspects to work on. The players are still giving us everything and trying to do the right things and they got their rewards in the end.

“Dale Hilson produced a good save from the keeper in the first half after a good bit of play and then Ryan Blair’s free kick was clever and it was just disappointing that we didn’t follow it in as it would been a simple tap in. Darren Watson then hit the post and I think the rebound just came back too quick to him and he didn’t have time to adjust.

“I was pleased to keep a clean sheet and it’s also the first time this season we’ve gone ahead in a game since pre-season. Had to defend well and put out bodies on the line at times.“

As attention now turns to tomorrow’s fixture against Musselburgh, Andy added, “That’s three consecutive league wins for us now and we’ll be looking to carry that momentum. We’re at home and we are looking to build on what we did last week. The players have trained really well this week and we’re looking forward to what tomorrow brings.”

LAST TIME OUT

Brechin City secured a third consecutive league victory last time out, recording a 2-0 win over Civil Service Strollers at Christie Gillies Park. After a goalless first half, Brad McKay broke the deadlock on the hour mark with a powerful header, before Darren Watson doubled the advantage just three minutes later with a fine finish to seal all three points.

Musselburgh Athletic, meanwhile, were held to a 2-2 draw by Bo’ness United at home. Ryan Porteous put the hosts ahead on 11 minutes, but Bo’ness turned the game on its head early in the second half with goals from Kieran Mitchell and Tom Grant. The Burgh responded through Nathan Evans in the 66th minute, with neither side able to find a winner as the points were shared.
