Committee Statement
- By
Management Committee
The management committee of Brechin City FC last night (Thursday) had a meeting with our players prior to their training session. The committee were greatly encouraged by the response of the players and given the events of the last few days have affected our players and backroom staff, we found the player's mood remarkably upbeat, given what they have had to endure.
Our supporters and particularly our season-ticket holders and sponsors are uppermost in our minds also. They have been denied a great opportunity by an administrative error which has had catastrophic consequences in a football sense. We can only ask the supporters, at this time, show the same desire to move forward as our players have done and not look back. We accept however that this will not be easy.
While accepting full responsibility for the error which was made, we must take exception to comments made in one tabloid newspaper today claiming that we were informed by our opponents prior to the game kicking-off. There were seven members of the management committee present at last Monday night's tie, not one of them had an approach from our opponents regarding any problems with our team lines prior to kick-off.
More importantly, Brechin City FC, has to continue and the players have already shown their desire to move up the table. The club is still considering it's own position internally and a fuller statement will be issued later. The club is out of the cup, there has been a large financial setback from missing out on a trip to Aberdeen. There is no fine in place from the SFA, but this in no way compensates what has been lost.
There is little doubt that this has been Brechin City's darkest hour, but we are confident that when our internal problems have been addressed, the club will move forward and be a force to be reckoned with in the second division once again.
