Brechin City FC have now confirmed that the club will play Coca Cola Championship side Ipswich Town on Thursday 5th October as part of their Centenary celebrations. The match will kick off at 7:30pm.
Club secretary Ken Ferguson said, "We are delighted to have secured such a high level club to help us mark the occassion.
"Ipswich play in the Coca-Cola Football League Championship, were in the Premier League in 2002, and have a tremendous history, having launched the careers of two England managers - Alf Ramsay and Bobby Robson.
"Their current manager Jim Magilton and our manager Michael O'Neill became friends when they both played for Northern Ireland.
"The Centenary match is on Thursday, October 5th, kick-off 7:30pm, and I hope that football supporters from Dundee to Aberdeen will want to make the journey to Glebe Park to see a team like Ipswich.
"They have promised to send their first team and the whole evening will be a tremendous experience for our players and the fans."
Ipswich are currently on a 6 match unbeaten run and hammered Roy Keane's Sunderland side 3-1 at the weekend.
The 'Tractor Boys' have started the season reasonably well, currently sitting in 8th place, not far off from the play-off places.
Ipswich currently have 5 international players on their books in former Dundee United star Jason De Vos (Canada), Alan Lee (Republic of Ireland, Jon Macken (Republic of Ireland), Jaime Peters (Canada) and Lewis Price (Wales). Ipswich manager Jim Magilton represented Northern Ireland at an international level 52 times before hanging up his boots as an Ipswich player at the end of the 2005/06 season having played for Oxford United, Sheffield Wednesday and Southampton. He was appointed as Ipswich manager on June 5, 2006.
