Match Preview | Kelty Hearts v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

Brechin City make the journey to New Central Park tomorrow for their Scottish Gas Scottish Cup third-round tie against Kelty Hearts looking to cause an upset against their League 1 hosts.

Kelty, sitting two divisions higher in the SPFL pyramid will head into the game as strong favourites but City will fancy their chances of causing an upset despite their injury problems.

While City climbed to the top of the Highland League last weekend, Kelty have endured a difficult spell, dropping to the foot of League One after eight games without a win.

TEAM NEWS
Brad McKay, Dugald Farquhar, Dayle Robertson, Mitch Taylor & Ben Armour will continue to miss out for City whilst Finlay Allan is suspended after picking up a booking in each of the previous two rounds of the competition. On a positive note, Manager Ray McKinnon is hopeful that Adam Hutchinson will return from injury whilst Ethan Crombie will also be back available.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
After his side went top of the Highland League with a win over Lossiemouth last Saturday, Manager Ray McKinnon said, “Lossiemouth made it really tough for us but I think we got what we deserved in the end because we were dominant for the whole game. It was brilliant technique from Grady (for the first goal). I congratulated him after the game because it was a top class finish.

“In the previous game against Keith when things weren’t going for them the players kept going and got their equaliser. It was the same against Lossiemouth - I felt we deserved more, but we had to work hard to win the game.

“The attitude of the players right until the end of the game was excellent and they deserve a lot of credit for that.

“We were hoping to go top following the game against Keith and didn’t so it was important we did it at Grant Park. We’ll try to stay there as long as we can.”

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 0-1 Kelty Hearts - 23rd May 2021
The last meeting between the sides will bring back bad memories for City fans, as Michael Tidser's winner two minutes from time sealed a 3-1 aggregate victory for the Fifers in the Pyramid Playoff who ultimately gained promotion to League 2. City meanwhile suffered relegation to the Highland League. In a tightly contested game, City were reduced to 10 men shortly before the break when Chris McKee saw red for dissent.
