Match Preview | Brechin City v Turriff United - By Steven Mew

City will look to maintain the pressure at the top of the Highland League as we play host to Turriff United tomorrow afternoon (2pm kick-off).

Turriff will arrive at the Carnegie Fuels Stadium at Glebe Park looking to take points off City for the first time, albeit they have ran City close on a number of occasions including the last meeting where it took a Fraser Macleod winner deep into stoppage time to take all 3 points.

TEAM NEWS
City's injury situation seems to be easing up slightly with the news that Adam Hutchinson and Mitch Taylor could potentially return for tomorrow's game, whilst Euan Spark also has a chance of featuring after limping off last weekend. A late decision will be made on all 3 players. City will continue to be without the services of Brad McKay, Dugald Farquhar and Dayle Robertson.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Speaking following an entertaining Highland League Cup tie against Clachnacuddin last weekend, Manager Ray McKinnon said, "Overall I think we deserved to win the game. I felt Clach scored the opening goal against the run of play as we created numerous chances in the first half that we never took.

"We created a lot of chances in the second half again and managed to get ourselves in front. We should have had the game won prior to the equaliser but we got the winner we deserved.

"When Grady went through one on one at 2-1 I thought it was a guaranteed goal as he is normally so clinical but credit to him as the goal that he scored was a lot more difficult to keep the ball down. It was a fantastic finish and I'm delighted for him.

"This is a tough league in terms of physicality and we knew it was a young team that we had put out there including Ethan Crombie who is just 16. He's young but technically brilliant. At his age there will be dips and we just need to monitor him but he's a top prospect. He was excellent last week in tight areas with the ball and the two tackles he had towards the end of the game showed that side to him as well. Euan Spark and Cillian Sheridan were our only experienced players out there.

"We asked them to go about the game in a certain manner and they did exactly that. There was room for improvement but I'm pleased for them as they needed to win that game in terms of how we played - it will give them confidence to keep playing in that manner, the way we pressed and got at the opposition."

Commenting on Finlay Allan who netted City's first goal and was a constant thorn in Clach's side, Ray said, "His goal was fantastic and he really came alive in the second half, creating a lot of chances. He's a talented young player who just needs to be a bit more consistent in his play."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 1-0 Turriff United - 8 March 2025
A dramatic late winner from Fraser Macleod ultimately proved to be the difference in the last meeting between the sides at the Carnegie Fuels Stadium at Glebe Park.
