Match Preview | Formartine United v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

Two unbeaten records go on the line this weekend as City travel to North Lodge Park to face Formartine United in the Breedon Highland League tomorrow afternoon.

Both sides are yet to taste defeat in the league, with City unbeaten in their last 13 league outings stretching back to last season whilst Formartine have also enjoyed a remarkable 13-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

While North Lodge Park has rarely been a happy hunting ground for Brechin in the past, last season’s 4-1 victory finally ended that run and Ray McKinnon's men will be hoping for more of the same as they look to turn recent draws into three points.

TEAM NEWS
City will head into this tomorrow's clash without the services of at least 6 players. Mitch Taylor misses out through suspension after his red card against Clachnacuddin, while long-term casualty Dayle Robertson remains sidelined.

The injury list has grown further with Brad McKay ruled out due to a neck problem and Ben Armour unavailable as he continues to recover from an ankle injury.

In addition, Wallace Baird and Finlay Allan are unavailable under the terms of the co-operation agreement, with both set to feature for Dundee B against Forfar tomorrow.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the 1-1 draw against Clachnacuddin last weekend, Manager Ray McKinnon said, "I think the first half was pretty stale from both sides. It was just one of those games where we needed to put our foot down and get control of the game. The first half was pretty even and we had a good chat at half time about how we were going to change that and I think our intensity in the second half was very good.

"We created plenty of chances and had Clach penned in so we're disappointed not to eventually win the game and that was the overriding feeling. I'm proud of the players at how they played with 10 men and their attitude throughout the second half.

"We don't think Mitch's first booking was correct and that was a really poor decision. However for the second booking Mitch will admit that his reaction at the foul after being brought down was wrong and he made it easy for the referee to send him off and we've had a chat about that.

"I felt we rose to the occasion with 10 men and deservedly got the goal, but I was disappointed with the penalty decision towards the end."

LAST TIME OUT
Despite taking the lead late on through Paul Watson, 10-man City were pegged back by Clachnacuddin last weekend as Josh Meekings was first to react after James Anderson's penalty had been saved by Hepburn.

Formartine were in midweek action as they booked their place in the final of the Aberdeenshire Cup after thumping Huntly 4-0 at Christie Park, with former City man Julian Wade netting a double.

PREVIOUS MEETING
Formartine United 1-4 Brechin City - 29 March 2025
Brechin City earned a fine win in Pitmedden in March with a commanding performance. Cillian Sheridan opened the scoring before half-time, and substitute Lewis Milne quickly doubled the lead after the restart. Lewis Martin headed in a third from another set piece and although Formartine briefly threatened a comeback through Scott Adams, Mitch Taylor restored Brechin’s three-goal cushion almost immediately, netting his fifth in three games.

The result marked Brechin’s first league victory at North Lodge Park since entering the Highland League.
