City have a break from league action this weekend as we face East of Scotland 1st Division side Newtongrange Star in what will be the first ever competitive meeting between the sides.
The ‘Star’ were 4-0 winners over Easthouses Lily in Preliminary Round 2 in order to reach the 1st round proper. Their club captain Adam Nelson formerly played for City, having been signed by Michael O’Neil back in 2007, although injury has ruled the experienced midfielder out of tomorrow’s fixture.
TEAM NEWS
City will definitely be without Ryan Ferguson through injury and captain Euan Spark who is suspended following his red card against Spartans in last season’s competition. Anthony McDonald, Dayle Robertson & Scott Logan have both been nursing slight knocks which meant they weren't risked last week and it is hoped they will be available.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the 2-1 victory over Rothes last week, Manager Patrick Cregg commented,
"We created enough chances to score more goals on the day - although we lost our rhythm a bit in the second half we still created enough attempts. I was really happy with the first half and thought our quality of play was really good.
"The play for our first goal was brilliant and Ewan showed great pace before the finish and Seth's strike was brilliant too.
"Their goal was a really good one from their point of view where everything had to go right in that circumstance. We wanted the keeper to be there so if there was a through-ball he would be in a position to sweep it up - it was just a bit of an anomaly as that won't happen all the time. Rothes had barely touched the ball inside our box so I'm happy from that point of view."
Looking ahead to the Scottish Cup tie tomorrow, Patrick added,
"Like every other game, if we can control what we do and work hard then hopefully our quality will come to fruition and we can create the right moments where we can punish them."
