Match Preview | Brechin City v Forres Mechanics - By Steven Mew

City head into their final home league fixture of the season as we welcome Forres Mechanics to the Carnegie Fuels Stadium at Glebe Park tomorrow afternoon.

As we approach the final 3 league games of the campaign, there could still be twists and turns but City are likely to require 3 wins to retain the Highland League crown, with goal difference also potentially coming into play.

City have largely found it difficult against the Cans Cans since entering the Highland League and the Moray side held City to a draw just a month ago in a re-scheduled fixture at Mosset Park.

Despite Forres gaining that creditable point against City, they currently sit 3rd from bottom and have gone 11 league fixtures without a victory.

TEAM NEWS
Sean Hastie is nearing a return but this game will come too soon for him. He is likely to be City's only absentee, with Marc Scott returning to training this week.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the defeat against Fraserburgh last weekend, Manager Gavin Price commented, "It was a horrendous game of football and many things went against us but that's in the history books now. We were under a lot of pressure in the first half as you would expect but we were dealing with it relatively well and the first penalty award was a key moment in the game - there's no doubt about that.

"I'm not going to over-analyse the game as it's hard to do that considering the conditions. We're not going to get that kind of wind on Saturday and the players need to have the freedom to express themselves in the way that they are capable of."

Looking ahead to this weekend, he commented, "What we can affect now is the next 3 games and we will aiming to win all of those to clinch the league. We have to get off to a flier on Saturday and embrace the situation that we're in - it's still a great position to be in with destiny in our own hands going in to the last week of the season.

"It's not often in your career that you are fighting for a league title. We need to use the disappointment of last Saturday at Fraserburgh and have a positive mindset."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Forres Mechanics 1-1 Brechin City - 13 March 2024
City were held to a frustrating draw in a re-scheduled fixture between the sides at Mosset Park last month, where blustery conditions undoubtedly made things difficult for either side to get into any kind of rhythm. Just seconds after coming on as a substitute, Grady McGrath broke the deadlock shortly before the hour mark however City were pegged back just over ten minutes later when Hamish Thomson diverted a cross into his own net.
