Match Preview | Wick Academy v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

City will embark on the near 500-mile round trip to Wick tomorrow afternoon as they look to put the disappointment of the midweek defeat firmly behind them.

Manager Gavin Price was left lamenting a poor second half showing which saw Buckie Thistle emerge victorious from a crucial league fixture in midweek. The result meant City’s title aspirations suffered a setback however they go into the final 5 matches knowing that their destiny is still in their own hands.

Focus now turns to tomorrow’s league fixture against Wick Academy and City will be acutely aware of the threat that the Scorries can pose on their own patch, having defeated Buckie 3-1 at Harmsworth Park last weekend and they also recorded the same impressive scoreline against 5th placed Formartine United earlier in the month.

TEAM NEWS
City will continue to be without striker Sean Hastie whilst Marc Scott is likely to miss out again. Otherwise, Gavin Price should have the rest of his squad available for selection.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the defeat against Buckie Thistle in midweek, Manager Gavin Price said, "We got what we deserved. I felt we were outworked and that isn't acceptable - we've had an honest chat with the players about it.

"Ewan did really well for the goal and we put ourselves in a good position in the game. If I'm being honest I thought we were quite fortunate to be 1-0 up at half time and we should have used that as a springboard and be resolute in the second half.

"We didn't work hard enough and that's the bottom line. At this stage of the season you have to work a lot harder and do the dirty side of the game and there were not enough players doing that on Wednesday which is unacceptable for a team that is trying to win the league title.

"We have to make sure that we learn from Wednesday and respond in a positive manner - it's still in our own hands and ultimately it's up to us. We have the perfect opportunity tomorrow to get back on the right path again."

Anthony McDonald featured in the squad for the first time since July with Gavin adding, "It's difficult for players to come back after that length of time so it's good to see him back. He's back in training and he looks to be enjoying being back involved again. He's maybe not ready to feature quite yet but we're hopeful we'll see him in a red shirt very soon."
