Match Preview | Forres Mechanics v Brechin City
- By
Steven Mew
City will be looking to continue where they left off at the weekend as we make the midweek trip to face Forres Mechanics at Mosset Park tomorrow evening.
A 5-1 win over Deveronvale, which could have been more, saw City return to the Highland League summit and they will undoubtedly be full of confidence going into the fixture against the Can Cans.
The Moray side however are struggling for form, having won just twice in their last 20 competitive fixtures and find themselves in 15th place in the league table.
TEAM NEWS
City will continue to be without Anthony McDonald and Sean Hastie for the trip tomorrow evening.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Speaking on the 5-1 win over Deveronvale at the weekend, Manager Gavin Price commented, "It was comfortable in the end and could have been a lot more as we missed a lot of chances, but on the flip side at least we were creating the chances. We had an early scare but in the end we deserved the victory. It was a poor start for about 15-20 minutes but we found out feet and in the last 20 minutes of the first half we turned the screw and created a lot of opportunities.
"I'm nit-picking but we shouldn't be starting games like that and we put ourselves under pressure because of it. I had watched Deveronvale during the week and I knew they can pose a big threat and how hard they work. If you give teams the lead like that then they've got something to defend and can make life difficult for you. We've got to be ruthless from the first minute.
"We had a strong bench and the luxury of freshening it up quite early in the second half and give minutes to some players which we had always hoped to do. I'm mindful the last time we played an away game midweek at Lossiemouth it took its toll on the players, not just in terms of playing 3 games in the space of a week but all the travelling that's involved too. We've got a great squad of players and we've got that for a reason when games come thick and fast at this time of the year. We will assess the players before deciding what the team will be on Wednesday night.
"We can't determine what happens elsewhere and we've just got to focus on ourselves and make sure the players are set up correctly and on their game. There's a long way to go and I'm sure there will be twists and turns to come. We've got another two hard fixtures this week away from home and we've got to make sure we're not the team who slips up."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 2-1 Forres Mechanics - 19 November 2022
Tomorrow' fixture will be the first time the sides have met for around 15 months. The last meeting between the sides saw City net a dramatic stoppage time winner in tough conditions at Glebe Park.
Jack Grant had given the visitors a narrow lead at the break and City were finding it increasingly difficult to breach the Forres defence. Marc Scott managed to restore parity midway through the second half and just as it looked like City would have to settle for a share of the points, Grady McGrath was fouled inside the box and netted the resulting penalty deep into added time to snatch the victory.
