Match Preview | Brechin City v Rothes - By Steven Mew

Just three weeks after the sides met on league duty, City and Rothes will clash again tomorrow afternoon in the 1st round of the Scottish Cup at the Carnegie Fuels Stadium at Glebe Park.

City will be looking to continue their recent fine form of 5 straight wins, conceding just once in the process.

TEAM NEWS
After missing a number of players for last weeks fixture against Strathspey, Manager Andy Kirk will have a bigger roster to choose from for tomorrow's cup tie. Marc Scott returns from suspension, whilst Ryan Ferguson and Ewan Murray will both come in to the squad. Ewan Loudon took part in some light training during the week but tomorrow's match is likely to come too soon for him. Long-term injury victim Anthony McDonald will continue to miss out.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Looking back at the 5-0 win over Strathspey Thistle last weekend, Manager Andy Kirk commented, "I thought some of the patterns and ideas were good and that we were on top from the start to finish. I was pleased with the players and if we are being critical we should have scored a few more goals but at the end of the day it's another really good performance. Some of the link up play, movement and goals that we were scored were excellent.

"It's all about attitude and we knew that we would be stronger than Strathspey - credit to the players as they set the standards and there were only a couple of moments in the game where we started to take extra touches but we quickly stepped back up up again. We made a couple of changes to the shape of the team and they picked it up really well.

Spencer Moreland netted his first City goal to the open the scoring with Andy adding, "Spencer started the game ok and when he got his goal his whole game changed - he got a lot of confidence from it and his energy levels and quality on the ball was really good. There's a lot more to come from Spencer and he's another player that fits in well with what we are trying to do."

Striker Grady McGrath netted a hat-trick with his 3rd goal the pick of the bunch. Andy said, "Grady does that every week in training - he's got great ability and he's composed in front of goal. It was great to see him getting a hat-trick. We brought him here to score goals and every week that's his focus - he's into double figures already and with a bit of luck he could do even better than last year."

Attention now turns to the Scottish Cup tomorrow - Andy said, "We were grateful for the home draw and it's a team that we know and have played already this season. We know how difficult it's going to be - it's a cup game and everyone wants to progress to the next round. It will be a slightly different game to the one we had in the league a few weeks back - we know Rothes are a strong team and well organised at the back."

The sides met earlier in the month in a league fixture at Mackessack Park, with City running out comfortable 2-0 winners. First half goals from Grady McGrath and Liam Duell had City two-up at half time and despite Marc Scott being sent off early in the second half for two quickfire bookings, City saw the game out with relative ease.
