Match Preview | Brechin City v Brora Rangers - By Steven Mew

After dropping points at Huntly last weekend, City will be looking to bounce back against Brora Rangers at the Carnegie Fuels Stadium at Glebe Park tomorrow afternoon.

A City side boosted by the return of Marc Scott and Spencer Moreland, along with the addition of Ryan Ferguson, Liam Duell and another new signing to be confirmed tomorrow will give Manager Andy Kirk additional options having had to power through with a threadbare squad in the last few matches.

City will come up against a Brora side who have opened up their Highland League campaign with two 1-0 victories on the road against Nairn County and Rothes respectively.

TEAM NEWS
After missing the last two matches due to a head knock, winger Marc Scott will be available for selection whilst Spencer Moreland will also return to the squad. City will continue to be without Lewis Martin & Anthony McDonald. New signings Ryan Ferguson and Liam Duell will be amongst the squad, whilst another new signing to be confirmed tomorrow will also be added to the ranks ahead of the game. Keep your eyes peeled on our website and social media platforms!

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Looking back at the match against Huntly, Manager Andy Kirk said, "It was very similar to what happened the previous midweek against Hearts - the only difference was that I thought we were in total control of the game until we were 2-0 up.

"I don't know whether we thought we had won the game but the decision making after that was poor. At 2-0 it's always a dodgy scoreline and one goal gets them back in it. Lenny (Wilson) has made a poor judgement for the penalty award and we need to learn from these mistakes. I don't think there was much contract if at all, but he gave the referee a decision to make.

"It feels like a defeat after being 2 goals up. Huntly obviously had a game plan to try and stay in the game as long as they could and they sat deep. It was about us playing the right pass or being a bit more forceful and we done that at the start of the second half. Huntly we've always found a bit difficult, having drawn with them at the start of last season too. They've improved massively and it's not an easy place to go to, there will be a lot of teams that will go there and struggle to take points that's for sure."

Speaking on the trialist, Andy commented, "I thought he did great. Coming into a new group is never easy and being asked to play in a certain way that you may not be used to. He worked really hard for the team and I was really pleased with him."

Looking ahead to tomorrow's match, he said, "We do need to take into consideration that the players have had a tough run of difficult matches in the space of 3 weeks - having no game this midweek will be good for us as we'll be able to get on the training pitch and do what we need to do and be a bit fresher for Saturday.

"Brora are one of the top teams in the league, it's as simple as that. We are expecting another tough game as they've got a lot of good players. We've just got to focus on the things that we need to tidy up on and if we can do that then we've got a great chance of getting the result."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 0-0 Brora Rangers - 05 April 2023
Despite picking up a fifth consecutive clean sheet, City were left frustrated at the other end of the park during a stalemate in the last meeting against Brora towards the tail end of last season.

With the visitors failing to test Lenny Wilson throughout the 90 minutes, City were left to rue missing the few good opportunities that came their way. Home skipper Jamie Bain was given his marching orders for a second booking seven minutes from time.

SPONSORSHIP & MASCOT
Tomorrow's match sponsor is lifelong City fan Jim Begg who is celebrating his upcoming 96th birthday with his family whilst the matchball has been sponsored by Stewart Brown. Our mascot will be Evan Reid!
