Match Preview | Lossiemouth v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

City are back on the road for the first time in 5 weeks as we make the journey to Lossiemouth for the 2nd round of the GPH Builders Merchants Highland League Cup tomorrow afternoon.

Andy Kirk's men were out of action last weekend due to Formartine United's participation in the Scottish Cup. City had to dig deep in their last outing against Forres Mechanics at Glebe Park a fortnight ago, with Grady McGrath's stoppage time penalty earning City a crucial three points.

Lossiemouth meanwhile head into the fixture off the back of a creditable one-goal defeat against Buckie Thistle at Victoria Park in the Highland League last weekend and could consider themselves unfortunate not to have come away with a share of the spoils.

TEAM NEWS
City will continue to be without the injured duo of Hamish Thomson and Jordan Northcott. Manager Andy Kirk commented, "Hamish has started some running and Jordan has started to progress with some strength work so we're really pleased with how the two of them are coming along. I'm hoping that this month will be hugely positive for both of them."

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Looking back at the last-gasp victory over Forres Mechanics a fortnight ago, Manager Andy Kirk said, "We had total control of the game - Forres scored a good goal to open to the scoring but outwith that they didn't really cause us too many problems. We kept trying to play the way we normally play and we ended up getting our reward for it. The surface was obviously difficult and sometimes we will have to adapt a little bit when we play on pitches like this. We have a lot of quality in the squad that is capable of playing in different ways and systems.

"It turned out to be a really positive day and credit to everyone at the club to get the game on as some areas of the pitch was covered in water on Friday. To get the pitch to the stage where we could play the game was great and it turned out to be very important for us.

"We would have wanted to keep the games coming as we're getting to that time of year where there will be other games off due to the weather. However the boys have had a chance to re-charge the batteries and hopefully we can hit the ground running again and pick up where we left off."

After missing the last 6 weeks through injury, captain Jamie Bain made his return against Forres, with Andy adding, "Jamie gives us a bit of experience - he's been out for a while through injury and he's come back into the team again. That was another positive getting minutes in his legs and he will get himself back up to speed very quickly."

City come up against Lossiemouth in the Highland League Cup tomorrow with Andy commenting, "We played Lossiemouth in the league earlier in the season at home and it was a tough game, second half in particular so we're expecting the same thing tomorrow. They will be well organised and we will have to be on our game and take our chances when they come along. It's a cup competition and everyone wants to progress."

City cruised to victory in the last meeting between the sides in the Highland League earlier in the season. All goals came in the opening 45 minutes with Grady McGrath, Anthony McDonald and Fraser MacLeod all on target. City were unable to replicate their performance in the second half and failed to add to their advantage, with Seth Patrick given his marching orders late on for a second booking.
