Match Preview | Brechin City v Forres Mechanics - By Steven Mew

Weather permitting, City hope to be at Glebe Park for the third game on the trot as Forres Mechanics provide the opposition tomorrow for a Highland League fixture.

Following considerable rainfall over the last 48 hours or so, the conditions have placed some doubt over whether the game will go ahead - however the club are working hard on the pitch and will update supporters of any developments.

Despite a 4-2 victory over Rothes in the Highland League Cup last weekend, Manager Andy Kirk wasn't overly impressed with his sides' performance and will be looking for an improvement in standards.

The Can-Cans travel to Glebe Park coming off the back of a 2-0 victory over Keith in the Highland League Cup, which had followed an impressive point at home against Fraserburgh in the league.

TEAM NEWS
City will be missing the injured Hamish Thomson and Jordan Northcott but otherwise the rest of the squad should be available for selection.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Speaking on last week's game against Rothes, Andy Kirk said, "It was a tough game - Rothes were well organised and worked hard. I don't think it was our best performance by any stretch of the imagination - I thought we were a bit off it in a lot of aspects of the game. At the end of the day we managed to get the result we needed to get to the next round.

"First half we started ok and we caused some problems but we got caught on two breaks that we didn't defend well enough. We didn't really play at all second half and I just thought we were a yard or two short all over the pitch, which hasn't been like us at all. Credit to the players though, they kept going and we managed to get the result.

"We've set a lot of high standards within the group in terms of our performances and last week we fell short in most areas of the pitch.

"We're delighted that Botti got a hat-trick - he worked hard throughout the game. His second goal at the start of the second half came at a good time but we didn't kick on from that."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Forres Mechanics 0-1 Brechin City - 30 July 2022
In an almost-exact repeat from the corresponding fixture last season, Kevin McHattie proved to be the hero at Mosset Park as his 30-yard wonderstrike earned City a narrow win over Forres Mechanics on the second day of the season.

Forres striker Ben Barron saw red on the half hour mark for a second bookable offence but City were unable to add to their tally, despite dominating proceedings.
