Match Preview | Brechin City v Rothes
- By
Steven Mew
City have another break from league action tomorrow afternoon at we host Rothes in the 1st round of the GPH Builders Merchants Highland League Cup.
Andy Kirk's men will be looking to replicate their fine league form into the cup and improve on last season's 2nd round exit to Brora Rangers.
Following a slow start to the season, Rothes have picked up in recent weeks with 3 wins from their last 4 Highland League matches which has seen them rise into the top half of the table in 8th place.
TEAM NEWS
City will continue to be without the injured Hamish Thomson and Jordan Northcott but otherwise the rest of the squad will be available for selection.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the 5-0 win over Clachnacuddin last week, Manager Andy Kirk said, "Last week was good and I enjoyed the performance. There were a lot of good aspects both with and without the ball. There was plenty of energy on the pitch and the goals were of great quality as well so all in all it was a good afternoon for us."
Striker Grady McGrath netted his first hat-trick for City with Andy adding, "Grady is a goalscorer and he's got that knack of finding spaces and the composure and calmness in front of goal. We're delighted with the return he's given us so far but there is still a lot more to come from him as well. He's getting better, stronger and fitter week by week."
Kevin McHattie added another raker to his collection this season with a spectacular 25-yard strike. Andy stated, "Kevin has got real quality with that left foot and not just with the goals he's scored, but assists as well."
Looking ahead to the cup tie against Rothes tomorrow, he commented, "Whether it's the league or the cup it's another game for us to go out and win. Rothes were a strong side last year and they've picked up a bit. We played them on the opening day of the season this year and despite only winning 1-0 we were dominant and should have scored more that day.
"It'll be a different Rothes team we come up against tomorrow as they've picked up results of late and there will be a bit more confidence about them."
