Match Preview | Brechin City v Buckie Thistle - By Steven Mew

With both sides winning the opening 4 games and boasting unbeaten records stretching well back into last season, the Highland League fixture between Brechin City and Buckie Thistle at Glebe Park tomorrow afternoon has the makings of an entertaining encounter.

City are currently on a 15-match winning streak in the league since a 1-0 defeat against Buckie in February. Meanwhile the Jags have embarked on a remarkable unbeaten run since City last inflicted defeat on them in October last year, winning 28 and drawing once.

TEAM NEWS
Andy Kirk should have the luxury of a full squad to pick from for tomorrow's match.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on the win over Deveronvale at the weekend, Andy Kirk stated, "It wasn't our best performance of the season having come off the back of the Hibs game in midweek which we worked extremely hard in - I think Saturday was a consequence of that. We brought a couple of players in that needed minutes in the legs. Had we scored the penalty early on it probably would have changed the whole feel of the game. We need to be more ruthless in front of goal but there are positives to take from it and we are happy enough.

"It's another three points and good for Seth to get his first goal. In the warm up he had two or three really good strikes and we thought maybe this would be the day and so it proved. We're delighted for him as he puts so much work into the game and he deserved a bit of a break. I think he should be scoring more goals and that goes for all of our midfielders."

After netting against Hibernian B in the cup, Jordan Northcott followed it up with another goal on Saturday. Andy added, "Jordan puts a power of work into the game - he's quick, agile and I believe there is still a lot more to come from him. He's getting more positive in his forward play and with his raw pace he is causing a lot of problems. He missed the first couple of games with a wee niggle but he is starting to get back to himself again."

Looking ahead to the crunch match against Buckie tomorrow, Andy said, "It's a huge game. You can see how the league panned out last year and these games are important to try and win. Buckie are very effective at what they do and they have a lot of good players. These matches always bring a bit of a 'derby' feel to it as the players and fans know it is a big game. We'll be doing everything we can to win."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Buckie Thistle 1-0 Brechin City - 12th February 2022
City’s lingering title hopes suffered a crushing blow as fellow challengers Buckie Thistle edged out a scrappy encounter at Victoria Park back in February

It was a game of very few opportunities as both sides struggled to deal with the strong winds throughout. The only goal of the game arrived after just 5 minutes when a deflected free kick from Max Barry wrong-footed keeper Jack Wills who fumbled into his own net.

SPONSORSHIP & MASCOT
Tomorrow we welcome former City coach Darren Taylor to Glebe Park with his company MAK Contracts sponsoring the match. Meanwhile our matchball sponsor is Tommy Church. Many thanks to both for supporting the club and we hope you enjoy your afternoon.

Leading the teams out is Kyle Vettese who celebrates his 13th birthday on Saturday - what better way to enter your teens Kyle!
