Anthony McDonald Signs for City - By Steven Mew

The Club is delighted to confirm the signing of former Hearts youngster Anthony McDonald on a two-year contract.

The 21-year old attacking midfielder put pen to paper prior to our victory over Formartine United at the weekend and featured as a trialist later on in the match.

Anthony, who has represented Scotland at U16 and U17 level, burst onto the scene at Hearts where he made his first team debut aged 16 in a 2-0 win over Dundee at Tynecastle, supplying an assist for the opening goal.

He made a total of 25 appearances for the Jambos, during which he spent time on loan at both Inverness CT and Dunfermline Athletic, with the latter spell interrupted by a back injury.

Following his release from Hearts, he signed a two-year contract with Spanish side Cordoba in October 2020, before returning back to Scotland with Inverness early the following year.

After leaving Inverness, he signed a short term deal with Edinburgh City in January 2022 where he helped them clinch a play-off spot with the Capital side ultimately gaining promotion to League One.

Manager Andy Kirk said, "We're delighted to get someone of Anthony's ability at Brechin. He's an attacking midfielder who can play either side - he always wants to move forward with the ball and he's very flexible.

"I know him from the Hearts Academy where he made his way through to the reserves and ultimately first team. We have tried a couple of times to bring him to the club and this time it has paid off. We're fortunate to get a player of his quality and we're looking forward to seeing what he can do for us.

"He's a wee bit away in terms of fitness so we will work with him over the next couple of weeks to get him up to speed. He's a very exciting player who can dribble, create opportunities and score goals. Since we lost Max (Kucheriavyi), we've been looking to replace him and Anthony is that type of player.

"Anthony will be looking to play at a higher level again - he's had a few injuries and setbacks and hopefully we can help him back to the levels he was at previously and if that's the case, we've got one hell of a player there."

Anthony is available to sponsor, with home or away kit sponsorship costing £200, whilst boot sponsorship is priced at £100. For full details visit the PLAYER SPONSORSHIP page on the club website.
