Match Preview | Brechin City v Formartine United - By Steven Mew

City will be looking to make it 3 wins from the opening 3 games but face a stern test against the early league leaders at Glebe Park tomorrow afternoon.

Following 1-0 victories over both Rothes and Forres Mechanics, Manager Andy Kirk has called on his side to be more ruthless in front of goal but is delighted with the defensive strengths shown in the opening two matches.

Formartine travel down to Glebe Park tomorrow off the back of a thumping 6-1 victory over Strathspey Thistle which had followed a 3-1 victory over Lossiemouth on the opening day of the season. These results sandwiched a penalty shootout win over Buckie Thistle in the Aberdeenshire Cup.

Amongst their ranks is a familiar face in the shape of Julian Wade who netted 13 times in all competitions for City last season. The Dominican striker has started the season in fine form, scoring five goals and registering several assists in the process.

TEAM NEWS
After missing the opening two matches of the season, skipper Iain Davidson should be available which will bring City up to a clean bill of health for tomorrow's match.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on last weekend's win over Forres Mechanics at Mosset Park, Manager Andy Kirk said, "I thought we started the game very poorly and we were sloppy for the first 30 minutes. Sometimes it can be like that and you just need a bit of quality to lift it and Kevin certainly did that with his goal. The ball was just constantly rising and he's got the quality to do that - hopefully we will see another one or two of those before the end of the season! We were grateful that he came up with the strike that he did and we started to get a foothold after the goal.

"The result never really looked in any doubt despite the fact we didn't start very well - it could have been 4 or 5. Second half we created a number of opportunities and we were just crying out for someone to put the ball in the net and give us that cushion. You always run the risk with a one goal lead but we've been very solid defensively and haven't looked like conceding in the opening two matches which has been very pleasing."

Speaking on our opponents tomorrow, Andy commented, "Formartine have started the season well and it'll be a tough game tomorrow. They are one of the stronger sides in the league with some very good technical players so again we need to be at our very best to win the game.

"Julian (Wade) is obviously a threat - he's got a bit of pace and he showed what he was capable of whilst he was with us. He's not the only good player they have so we need to ensure we keep an eye on a number of them. We have the quality ourselves and if we get our performance right we'll have a great chance of keeping the winning streak going."

PREVIOUS MEETING
