Another striker has left the club as Graham Gibson has joined Dick Campbell at Partick Thistle, who were promoted to the 1st division last week-end after a winning the Play-off final against Peterhead on penalties.

This is a fantastic opportunity for 'Gibby' to go full time following his return from Australia and he will further develop himself as a player at Firhill. The clubs have also agreed on a transfer fee for Gibby, which will boost manager Michael O’Neill in the transfer market as he looks to bring in several players during the summer.

Graham was signed by Dick Campbell from junior side Lochore Welfare in the summer of 2002 and he made an immediate impact as he scored twice on his debut at home to Berwick Rangers in the second division.

Gibson made a total of 119 appearances for Brechin over the four seasons spent at Glebe Park, although almost half were from the substitute’s bench. Gibson left the club at the start of the season to go and work in Australia but the club kept hold of his contract and when he came back in February, he made a number of appearances in the closing stages of the season. ‘Gibby’ scored 22 goals in his time at Glebe Park.

Gibby said, "I’d like to thank everyone at Brechin City for being so supportive of me over the last few years. The club couldn't have done enough for me and I am very grateful to all who have helped me achieve my dream of being a full-time footballer.

"When I decided to go to Australia, Brechin stood by me, and their loyalty was something I greatly appreciated. I am only moving because Partick Thistle are a full-time club, who are very ambitious who will provide me with an opportunity to work at that level, let alone play football.

"I especially want to thank the backroom guys Tom, Alan, Nom and Lewis and all the guys on the committee, without whom this move wouldn't be possible for me.

"I also want to thank the club's supporters for their backing. They have given me and the team great support through good times and bad. It doesn't seem so long ago that I was a nervous youngster waiting to make my debut against Berwick Rangers and I'll never forget the opportunity Brechin City gave me in the game."

Meanwhile Dick Campbell spoke to the official Partick Thistle website, he said:

"I am delighted to have signed Graham. I worked with him at Brechin and feel he has huge potential. He has something I think we lacked last season- genuine pace. He is very fast and capable of playing down either flank. He can also play through the middle. When I signed him for Brechin, from Lochore Welfare he was a striker and their top scorer, but I preferred to use him in a wide role. With the bigger pitches in the first division, I think he will be a major asset. He is also very capable of scoring vital goals."

"He is a very honest lad who always gives 100%, and I am sure he will be very popular with our supporters. When I was at Brechin we received a very substantial offer for his services from a top first division club, but as we had just sold a player to Morton we turned down the offer. I am therefore delighted to have secured his services for a lot less than this offer."

"I am trying to put together a team who will do well in the first division and I feel Graham is another piece in this jigsaw. He is an honours graduate in history and I think he will hugely benefit from full time football."

Everyone associated with Brechin City would like to wish Graham all the best in his future career.
