Match Preview | Annan Athletic v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

It's an early start for City tomorrow as we make the long journey south to face Annan Athletic in another crucial League 2 fixture, with a 12 noon kick off.

With Michael Paton's side currently six points adrift with six games remaining, they will be acutely aware that wins will be required soon and there will be no better place to start than tomorrow - against the side directly above in the league table.

City head into the game off the back of a narrow defeat against Edinburgh City, whilst Annan also put up a valiant effort in midweek with a single goal defeat against league leaders Queen's Park.

TEAM NEWS
City's only definite absentee tomorrow will be long-term injury victim Connor Barron, with on-loan Rangers striker Chris McKee returning from a one-match suspension. Rory Currie was substituted on the quarter hour mark in midweek and will be assessed, as will Gerry McLauchlan who is still nursing a slight calf injury. Both Abdul Osman and Player/Manager played most of the game against Edinburgh with no ill-effects and will again be in contention for a start.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on a narrow defeat against Edinburgh City on Tuesday evening, Player Manager Michael Paton said, "Despite not getting a result, I was pleased with the reaction of the players after a poor performance on Saturday - it was like night and day.

"We didn't start well and lost a goal from a set-piece but the heads didn't go down and I thought we played some really encouraging, positive football.

"Our goal was a really well worked move and Scott Reekie was unlucky shortly after with an almost identical chance. From the Elgin game onwards we've been scoring goals which is a positive.

Looking ahead to the match against Annan Athletic tomorrow, Michael said, "As I've said before, every game is massive for us given the position we're in. If we take the performance from Tuesday night into Saturday we'll give ourselves a real chance of getting a result.

MATCH OFFICIALS
Tomorrow's match referee is Chris Graham, assisted by Steven Traynor and John Stewart.

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 0-0 Annan Athletic - 22nd December 2021
Following a run of consecutive defeats, a battling City side picked up a welcome point and clean sheet against Annan Athletic at Glebe Park shortly before Christmas. It proved to be the last league game played before the suspension at the start of January.

A share of the spoils was the very least Michael Paton’s side deserved - with City desperately unlucky not to force the winner they craved during a particularly impressive second half showing.
