Match Preview | Brechin City v Stranraer - By Steven Mew

City head into tomorrow's match looking to pull themselves off the bottom of League 2, but will come up against a Stranraer side in fine form.

After a slow start to the season, the recently-relegated Blues have won their last two league matches which came either side of impressive showings against Premiership side Hamilton Academical and Championship outfit Ayr United in the Betfred Cup.

TEAM NEWS
Jonathan Page continues to miss out with an oblique strain whilst Sean McIntosh will also sit out with a hip injury. Striker Jimmy Scott picked up a calf injury in training which is currently being assessed but will rule him out of tomorrow's match also.

The positive news is that Scott Cusick and Rory Currie return the squad having trained this week. Meanwhile, Connor Coupe made his return as a substitute against Queens Park and came through it with no ill effects. Player/Manager Michael Paton said, "Connor looked sharp when he came on. We had hoped to get him involved earlier but we've been going on the advice of the physio. He's been keen to get involved and he came through unscathed on Saturday. He trained Monday and Wednesday this week and he's looking fit."

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on last week's defeat against Queen's Park, Michael said, "It was always going to be tough against Queens Park and when we conceded an early goal the backs were against the wall and it gave us a mountain to climb, especially against a full time team. A lack of concentration and inability to retain the ball in certain areas is letting us down at times.

"We didn't test their keeper enough and that's been the case for other matches too. There were times during the game where I thought we could get at them but we are lacking in the final third at the moment and this is something we need to work on in training. At the moment it almost feels as if we are waiting on that first goal instead of having the belief that we can go out and get it.

On tomorrow's opponents, Michael said, "There are no easy games in this league. After watching them they seem to be a real physical side with quality upfront with the likes of Darryl Duffy. We need to adjust and adapt - once we get our energy levels up things will start to click. Getting that first goal will be important."

MATCH OFFICIALS
Tomorrow's match referee is Steven Reid who took charge of City's last victory against Albion Rovers last month. He will be assisted by Callum Doyle and Jonathan Gall.

PREVIOUS MEETING
Stranraer 3-0 Brechin City - 20 April 2019
City's hopes of automatic safety in League One were dashed as they were beaten comprehensively by Stranraer at Stair Park in our last encounter. City were never at the races in the Stranraer sunshine as the Blues moved seven clear of Barry Smith's outfit in the table, confirming their own safety in the process.

The hosts were 2-0 up within the opening 12 minutes with goals from Mark Lamont and Ali McCann, whilst a solo effort from Cameron Elliott put the icing on the cake for the Blues in stoppage time.
