MICHAEL PATON SIGNS - By Steven Mew

The Club is delighted to announce the signing of experienced forward Michael Paton after leaving Queen of the South at the end of the season.

Michael is no stranger to City supporters having previously spent time on loan at the Glebe. Under the management of Michael O'Neill, he was brought in as a fresh faced 18 year-old from Aberdeen in 2008 and made a real impact during his time at the Club.

After coming through the academy at the Dons, he made 57 first team appearances and also had a loan spell at Stockport County before moving on to Queen of the South in March 2013. He would pick up two winners medals in as many months as he netted twice against Brechin in a 6-0 victory which clinched the Second Division championship, before helping the Doonhamers win the Challenge Cup.

Paton would spend a further two seasons with the Dumfries side before Allan Johnston again snapped him up, this time for Dunfermline where he remained for 3 seasons. A brief spell at Dumbarton followed before making his return to QotS at the start of last season - making 27 appearances prior to the league being curtailed early.

Manager Mark Wilson said, "Michael is a player that we have been chasing for about 6 weeks. It's been a lengthy, drawn out process but he obviously had options elsewhere - particularly from the Championship. We're delighted that he has chosen to join us.

"He took his time in assessing his options but he was able to see what we are a building here - a young, exciting team. He certainly believes he can come here and add quality to our squad.

"He is a player of huge experience and he'll help our young players along nicely. We are delighted to have him on board. He has chosen to take a step down the leagues but he still has the same ambition to be successful at Brechin City."
