Everyone associated with Brechin City FC was saddened to learn last weekend of the passing of Club Member, long time sponsor and great friend to the Club, Bob Black.

Bob passed away on Sunday after a lengthy battle with illness.

His family association to Brechin goes back over 180 years, with a variety of businesses located within the town during that time – with Bob himself as the fifth generation. Well known as a passionate fan of the Club, many of the City faithful may be unaware that Bob actually had a lengthy spell on the Committee from 1970 through to 1976. Subsequently devoting his time to his family and his business interests, Bob’s love for the Club never dwindled and this was clearly illustrated by the yearly purchase of his Season Ticket and his attendance at games both home and away for many years. The Club also enjoyed significant consistent support via a variety of sponsorship initiatives through his company.

As was the case in his business, Bob was ultimately succeeded on the Committee by his son Bobby – who continues to support the Club in the loyal and enthusiastic manner fashioned by his father.

A family service will be held on Friday 14th August (in private due to the current Covid restrictions) with the cortege completing a drive past of selected locations in the town. These are wholly meaningful to Bob’s family who have, in turn, issued an open invitation to those who wish to pay their respects to line any of the following locations from approximately 1.55pm to 2.20pm, remaining mindful of current social distancing requirements:

• Latch Road, Brechin
• Double Dykes, Brechin
• Airlie Street, Brechin
• Unit 9 Brechin Business Park, Brechin
• Clerk Street, Brechin
• Glebe Park Car Park, home of his much loved Brechin City FC.
• Thereafter to Brechin Cemetery.

The Club wishes to convey it’s sympathies and passes its best wishes to Bobby & Ann-Marie, their immediate and wider family as well as everyone impacted by Bob’s passing.
