Brechin City v Annan Athletic - Match Preview - By Steven Mew

Following a damaging result last weekend, City will be looking for a far more positive outcome tomorrow as we welcome Annan Athletic to Glebe Park for the fifth meeting between the sides this season.

City's struggles have been well documented but they come up against a side also on a poor run of form, with the black and golds losing their last 6 matches, conceding 18 goals in the process.

TEAM NEWS
Luke Watt remains sidelined with a hamstring injury and he will be joined by Ross Brown who sustained an ankle injury in training midweek. Otherwise, everyone else is available for selection.

Mark said, "Initially we suspected that Ross suffered a fracture and he had to go to A&E. Thankfully we were advised that it is just a bad sprain which is likely to keep him out for at least a couple of weeks."

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Looking back a damaging defeat against Albion last week Manager Mark Wilson said, "I thought we started well to be honest and did ok for the first half an hour. We had the majority of the possession and we got the goal at a good time.

"We then lost a goal through an individual error which then had a negative effect on the team and we lost another goal fairly quickly - it's just the way our season has went. This obviously made the team talk a lot different at half time and we were looking to get out there and start the second half well which we didn't do. Within ten minutes the game was out of our reach after conceding a couple of really poor goals. It was a really poor second half performance."

Looking ahead to the match tomorrow, Mark said, "Last week was an opportunity for us to turn things round and this week is the same. We've got to be as positive as possible - there is still 13 league games to go and a lot of points to play for. We're still in a positive frame of mind and we've discussed in length, both after the game on Saturday and in training what has been going wrong.

"We needed to clear the air and have that frank discussion and we hope that puts the players in a better frame of mind ahead of the game tomorrow. We've been playing well in spells but we need to ensure we do it for the entire 90 minutes."

Officiating the game tomorrow is Calum Scott, who will be assisted by Douglas Ross and Darren Munro.

PREVIOUS MEETING
Annan Athletic 5-2 Brechin City - 12th November 2019
City’s miserable sequence of results continued with a second 5-2 defeat on the road in a few days, as Mark Wilson’s side lost out at Galabank in a re-arranged midweek fixture.

A crazy first half saw Ross Crawford open the scoring for City after just 2 minutes, only for the home side to fight back through goals from Nathan Flanagan and Scott McLean. Crawford got his second for City to level things up again however McLean gave Annan a 3-2 half time lead from the spot before Chris McLaughlin was given his marching orders for dissent to give City an uphill task.

So it proved, as an own goal from Scott Reekie just after the break and a fifth from Lewis McLean 15 minutes from time rounded off a comfortable win for the hosts who themselves were reduced to 10 men late on when Matty Douglas was shown red for denying a goalscoring opportunity.
