Cowdenbeath v Brechin City - Match Preview
- By
Steven Mew
Under the stewardship of Stevie Campbell, City travel to Central Park tomorrow looking to make it back to back wins in League 2 against Cowdenbeath.
A solitary goal from Paul McManus against Albion Rovers in Coatbridge last weekend gave City a long awaited victory - their first in the league since March. Cowdenbeath, meanwhile, also come off the back of a fine 3-1 victory at home to Annan Athletic.
TEAM NEWS
Whilst late decisions will be made over others who took knocks last weekend, a definite absentee is Jamie Reid. City’s travelling fans will recall he battled on despite picking up an injury late in the game – but this match has come too early for him to return to the squad. Also missing from the squad will be Sean McIntosh who continues his recovery from a broken metatarsal.
STEVIE CAMPBELL'S COMMENTS
Speaking after Thursday night’s training session, Stevie Campbell said, “Given what had happened the week before, I was really pleased with the response from the players at Albion Rovers. It was crucial that we scored first and, despite being under a bit of pressure in the opening 20 minutes, that’s exactly what we did.
"Let’s not kid on that it was pretty but, an incredible work rate throughout the team and some outstanding leadership from our senior players, created the platform which brought us the 3 points we were so desperately keen to get.
"We’ll definitely need a similar work ethic and resilience against a tricky team who will themselves be encouraged with a home win last weekend. The players know that and are just as motivated as they were at Coatbridge to grab another win and look to start climbing the league table.”

PREVIOUS MEETING
Cowdenbeath 2-1 Brechin City - 9th April 2016
The Blue Brazil came out on top the last time the sides met at Central Park. This would be just one of two defeats in City's last 10 matches that season as Darren Dods' side completed 'the great escape'.
Greig Spence netted in the first minute however Lewis Spence equalised for City midway through the second half. A late winner from Chris Kane earned all three points for Cowden, but it was City who would go on to retain their League 1 status at Cowdenbeath's expense at the end of the season.
