Brechin City v Queens Park - Match Preview - By Steven Mew

Following a 9 goal thriller against Elgin in the Cup on Tuesday, it's back to league business for City tomorrow afternoon as we welcome Queens Park to the Glebe.

The Spiders have enjoyed a positive start to their league campaign, with an opening day win at Stirling Albion followed up with a last gasp draw against Stenhousemuir at Hampden. City, meanwhile are yet to get off the mark after narrow defeats against Annan Athletic and Edinburgh City.

TEAM NEWS
After coming off injured on Tuesday, it has since been confirmed that Sean McIntosh has broken two bones in his foot which will keep him out of action for a minimum of 6 weeks.

Otherwise, Smith has a full squad available to choose from. Both Ross Brown and Fionn McLeod Kay trained yesterday evening and will be involved with the squad, whilst Dougie Hill returns after sitting out Tuesday's match with a back problem. Having played for St Johnstone Colts in the first round of the competition, Olly Hamilton was ineligible to play on Tuesday but will also return for tomorrow's game.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Manager Barry Smith said, "I thought we showed a lot of character to get ourselves back into the game on Tuesday after a slow start but we shot ourselves in the foot again by conceding cheap goals. Despite the fact we conceded 5, I thought Jonathan Page came in and did very well with it being his first game in a while."

Barry was particularly pleased with City's threat from set pieces - "It's something that we work on in training. Page will obviously add to that and then we have Dougie Hill to come in who scored a lot of goals from set pieces last season.

"Queens Park are always a tough nut to crack but we still believe that we are seeing good signs and there were positives to take from Tuesday's game. We passed the ball well at times, particularly in the first half and created good chances but we need to be more clinical in front of goal.

MATCH OFFICIALS
The match referee tomorrow is John McKendrick who will be assisted by Ross MacLeod and Ian Hart. McKendrick was in charge the last time City won a league match - a 2-0 victory over Stranraer at Stair Park back in March. A good omen perhaps!

PREVIOUS MEETING
Queens Park 1-1 Brechin City - 18th March 2017
The last meeting between the sides came in the League One fixture at Hampden Park where Andy Jackson's goal six minutes from time looked to have earned all 3 points for City, only for Ryan McGeever to pop up with an equaliser in stoppage time. City would go on to gain promotion to the Championship via the playoffs that season, with Ryan McGeever signing for City that summer!
