Brechin City v Elgin City - Match Preview - By Steven Mew

City are back in action this evening as we host fellow League Two outfit Elgin City in the 2nd round of the Tunnock's Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup.

Elgin netted a last minute winner to defeat Hibernian Colts at Easter Road in the first round, whilst City were afforded the luxury of going straight into the hat for the second round having been in League One last season.

TEAM NEWS
After coming off on Saturday, Dougie Hill is rated as 50/50 whilst the match has come too soon for Ross Brown and Fionn McLeod Kay who will likely need another full weeks training before coming into contention. Olly Hamilton is cup tied, having already taken part in the competition for St Johnstone Colts last week. Luke Watt made his return from injury as he played the second half of Saturday's game at Edinburgh and is likely to start. There is also the possibility of a new signing, subject to paperwork being completed.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Manager Barry Smith said, "It was frustrating to lose the goal in the last minute on Saturday. I thought we created enough chances to win the game, some of which were clear cut. We showed a much more positive attitude in the second half, as I thought we were a bit apprehensive in the first half. We went at them in the second half and we showed what we are capable of.

"Paul McManus deserved his goal. His attitude has been spot on and he works so hard for the team. It was good movement from him, running from a bit deeper and it was a great finish - that's the kind of composure we are looking for in front of goal.

"This competition is not lucrative financially but we want to win every game we go into. I can't fault the boys for hard work and effort but a win would do a lot for their confidence."

MATCH OFFICIALS
The match referee this evening will be Mike Roncone, assisted by Ralph Gordon and Robin Taylor.
