Stranraer v Brechin City - Match Preview - By Steven Mew

City make the near 400 mile round trip to Stranraer tomorrow afternoon hoping to get back on track following a poor sequence of results in the league.

TEAM NEWS
City received a welcome boost this week with St Johnstone loanee Callum Hendry returning to training. The striker, who celebrated his 21st birthday last weekend, has been out of action since breaking his hand at Starks Park against Raith Rovers 6 weeks ago and is immediately available for selection.

Skipper Paul McLean, who made a welcome return to action last weekend, may still have to settle for a place on the bench as he continues to work towards full match fitness. Meanwhile, 22 year-old defender Jordan Tapping is fit again despite having had to be substituted in the home defeat against Stenhousemuir. Only Ryan McGeever and Dene Shields are definite absentees.

Manager Barry Smith said, "It was great to have Callum back at training this week. Stevie and I will consider how best to shape the team, and this gives us an option we've lacked over the past few weeks."

Referring to Sean Burns' disallowed goal and the penalty conceded by Jordan Tapping at the Glebe against Stenhousemuir last weekend, Barry added "I do feel we're not getting a rub of the green on some key decisions, and we are entitled to hope that the hard work the players are putting into training will bring its rewards come 4:45pm on a Saturday."

MATCH OFFICIALS
Taking charge of the game tomorrow is Grant Irvine who will be assisted by John McCrossan and Scott Love. The last time Irvine took charge of a City match was the 3-2 Scottish Cup victory over Buckie Thistle last season which of course set up the memorable tie against Celtic at Parkhead.

PREVIOUS MEETING
29 September 2018 - Brechin City 1-1 Stranraer
An equaliser just five minutes from time by Luke Donnelly rescued a point for the Blues at Glebe Park back in September. A sublime free kick from Callum Tapping had put City ahead and despite controlling much of the game, they were dealt a hammer blow as Donnelly sweeped home from the edge of the box to earn a share the spoils.
