Brechin City 0-2 Dundee United: Match Report - By Grant Hood

Brechin City 0-2 Dundee United

Preparations for the new season continued with a friendly against last years fellow Championship side Dundee United, in a game which provided encouragement for the City faithful who gave up World Cup TV viewing to visit Glebe Park.

The visitors took the lead after only 8 minutes, when a slack pass was picked up in midfield by Fraser Aird, who fairly danced his way through the City rearguard to calmly slot the ball home.

United, whose starting XI was dominated by new signings, continued to create chances but City came into the game from around the half-hour mark, creating several good chances before half-time.

The second half was less fluent, with regular substitutions - particularly from the visitors. It took until the 80th minute before another goal arrived. A superb overhead kick from James Keatings smacked off the face of the crossbar before rebounding off the retreating Euan Spark and dribbling over the goal line. Keatings went close again moments later when his effort hit the post and rebounded into the arms of new City keeper Conor Brennan - making his first appearance in front of City fans.

All in all, encouraging consecutive friendlies for Darren Dods's men, against full-time opposition, with a total of 9 trialists making appearances for City over the 2 games. Next up is the visit of Highland League side Formatine United on Saturday, with a 2pm kick-off.
