"After extra time. Albion win 4-3 on penalties.

"THIS was a gruelling battle but eventually Albion progressed into the third round of the CIS Cup after the drama of penalty kicks was all that could eventually divide these two sides. In a bizarre incident, Rovers' Chris Silvestro was awarded the opportunity of a second bite at the cherry when referee Colin Hardie ordered him to retake his first missed penalty.

"Brechin, who felt sure they had made it through, were knocked out 4-3 on penalties when Graeme McLaren strode up to knock home the decisive kick.

"A late headed equaliser from Brechin's experienced striker Paul Ritchie had taken the tie into extra time as Third Division side Albion threatened an upset. The home side had taken a surprise lead ten minutes into the second half through John Bradford, who flashed home a Jim Mercer cross."
