Brechin City went down to a resounding 5-1 defeat from near neighbours Forfar Athletic at Glebe Park.

Prior to kick-off, hopes were high amongst the home support that City would carry on the good work they had displayed in the first-half against Stenhouemuir the previous Saturday and hopes were also high that City would gain revenge for their Scottish Cup exit at the hands of the Loons.

However, City were never at the races against a side who were different class in the opening 45 minutes and who went in at the interval four goals up.

Martyn Fotheringham grabbed the opener after just seven minutes when he superbly chipped goalkeeper Calum Antell from the edge of the box and another former City player, Chris Templeman, doubled his side's lead ten minutes later. Darren Dods notched the third goal just after the half-hour mark and Dale Hilson rifled home goal number four four minutes later.

City replaced striker Derek Carcary with defender Paul McLean at the beginning of the second-half in a bid to bolster their defence but they almost went five goals down after 68 minutes when the visitors were awarded a penalty after Templeman went down in the box after a challenge by Ewan Moyes and Craig Molloy. However, Antell brilliantly saved Iain Campbell's spot-kick.

City did pull a goal back after 75 minutes when Bobby Barr who had worked his socks off throughout the match blasted the ball home for two yards out but Forfar restored their four-goal advantage nine minutes from time when Templeman slid in at the near post to divert an Omar Kader drive past Antell.
