Brechin City 4 Airdrieonians 3

Match Report - By John Hoey

Brechin City 4 Airdrieonians 3

Brechin City picked up their first league points since October after a 4-3 victory over basement club Airdrieonians at Glebe Park.

City were 3-0 up at one stage of the match but the Diamonds incredibly fought back to level the score-line with City's problems exacerbated with the sending-off of midfielder Greg Cameron in the 63rd minute. However, a last-gasp winner from Alan Trouten deep into injury-time kept the points at Glebe Park.

City should have opened the scoring after 17 minutes when Trouten intercepted a pass-back and rounded Diamonds keeper Daniel Rodgers but his shot cannoned back off the post.

The opener however was only delayed by seven minutes. City won a corner on the right and Derek Carcary's inch-perfect cross was superbly headed home by former Airdrie striker Ryan Donnelly.

City kept up the pressure and they doubled their advantage just four minutes later when Trouten picked up the ball at the edge of the penalty area and weaved his way into the box before unleashing a tremendous right-foot drive which sailed into the top corner of the net giving Rodgers no chance.

City made it 3-0 eleven minutes into the second-half with a well-worked goal from Andy Jackson. Johnny Brown picked up the ball wide on the right and pushed forward before releasing Jackson who kept his cool before slotting the ball beyond Rodgers.

The visitors hit right back through and reduced the deficit four minutes later when a cross from Caplin McAleer was finished off by former City striker Jim Lister.

City were dramatically reduced to ten men just three minutes later when Cameron was sent off for retaliating after a challenge from Airdrie striker Lewis Coult.

The visitors made the extra man count and they pulled back another goal with eight minutes remaining when Coult swept home a cross from Lister and the Diamonds dramatically levelled the match two minutes into injury-time when Nathan Blockley fired home from close-range.

The drama was far from over though as City grabbed a sensational winner a minute later when Trouten fired home from two yards out.
