Forfar Athletic 3 Brechin City 3

Match Report - By John Hoey

Brechin City went out of the 4th round of the Scottish Cup to near neighbours Forfar Athletic after a pulsating and entertaining end-to-end encounter at Station Park last night.

The game had to be decided on penalties after the teams were level at 2-2 at the end of 90 minutes and were still level at 3-3 after extra-time.

Johnny Brown missed the first penalty for City with Gavin Malin converting the Loons first kick. Steven Jackson, Paul McManus, Bobby Barr, Gary Fusco and Graham Hay all converted their penalties before Iain Campbell's kick was saved by Smith. Alan Trouten then had his kick saved by Douglas which left 16 year-old youth player Craig Smith with his kick set to determine whether his team would finish victorious and the youngster kept his cool to convert his spot-kick and send the Loons into the last sixteen of the tournament and a home meeting against St Johnstone.

Andy Jackson had fired City into the lead after 7 minutes but Chris Templeman headed home the equaliser after 19 minutes. City regained the advantage five minutes into the second-half when Alan Trouten converted after Darren Petrie had been brought down in the box by Neil McCabe, but the Loons again came back to level the match with a Gavin Malin goal with five minutes remaining.

With the tie now into extra-time, Allan Walker gave City the lead for the third time when he rifled home a superb 20 yard drive before the Loons drew level again with another Templeman goal in the 108th minute.
