Stenhousemuir 3 Brechin City 1

Match Report - By John Hoey

A hat-trick from John Gemmell ensured victory for Stenhousemuir over Brechin City for the second time in as many weeks at Ochilview this afternoon.

The big striker headed home the opener after 21 minutes in an evenly balanced first half but City came out with their sleeves rolled up after the break and deservedly levelled the match through Andy Jackson in the 58th minute.

City were totally dominant at this stage and had several goal-scoring opportunities which they failed to take and they paid the price in the 73rd minute when a superb Gemmell free-kick gave his side the lead for the second time and right at the death he scored again from another free-kick contorversially awarded by referee Euan Anderson.

Despite the defeat, City players can take a great deal of heart from their performance as they were desperately unlucky not to take at least a point from the match.
