Brechin City opened their league campaign with a narrow but comfortable 1-0 win over Albion Rovers

The opening stages were evenly contested with both sides looking to get the vital early goal but City gradully assumed command and they opened the scoring after 15 minutes when a great pass from Scott Dalziel released Jonathan Stewart on the right.

Stewart made for the bye-line and delivered a low cross into the box which was parried by Albion keeper Chris McCluskey only as far as Andy Jackson who made no mistake from around two yards out.

The home side should have doubled their lead in the 32nd minute when a great cross-field pass from Jackson sent David McKenna away on the left and when his cross came into the box, it fell nicely for Dalziel who steered the ball just inches past the post.

City continued to dominate proceedings after the break and they again came close to increasing their lead in the 55th minute when Jackson headed a Garry Brady cross from the right over the bar and three minutes later, McCluskey did well to thwart McKenna.

With ten minutes remaining a low McKenna cross across the face of the goal was just missed by Gerry McGlauchlan and a couple of minutes later, Ewan Moyes headed a Brady corner just past the post.
