Match Report - By John Hoey
FORFAR ATHLETIC 0 BRECHIN CITY 0
City and Forfar shared a point apiece after a dull and uninspiring contest at Station Park.
The result moves City up to fifth place in the Second Division table, a couple of points behind fourth placed East Fife.
City manager Jim Weir made no changes to the team or bench for the second derby of the season with the visitors looking to get revenge for their 1-0 defeat at Glebe Park in September.
Chris Hegarty picked up a loose ball for the Loons in the 2nd minute and tried a shot from around 30 yards but it sailed over the bar and a minute later Scott Smith headed a Byers cross from the left behind.
In the 20th minute, Paul McLean made some headway on the right and crossed into the box but Greg Paterson in the Forfar goal punched clear.
At the other end, just three minutes later, Ross Campbell headed a Martyn Fotheringham cross wide of the target.
Gary Fusco made ground on the right in the 24th minute and crossed into the box for Jim Lister whose header lacked power and was easily gathered by Paterson.
City had a great chance to grab the lead in the 28th minute when Paul McManus raced clear with only the keeper to beat but Paterson brought off a great save to deny him.
Forfar hit back and Craig Nelson saved a Ross Campbell header from a Fotheringham cross and a minute later, the big keeper was called into action again when he saved an Iain Campbell header.
City actually had the ball in the net six minutes before the break when Scot Buist fired home from just within the penalty-area but the linesman had flagged for offside against McManus.
The second-half turned out to be more of the same with goalmouth chances few and far between.
A couple of minutes after the re-start Fusco played a cross-field pass to Neil Janczyk who blasted well wide and at the other end eight minutes later a Chris Templeman cross was deflected for a corner.
Both sides were defending well but neither were able to create any clear-cut chances as the half progressed.
