Brechin City 2 East Fife 3

East Fife boosted their slight play-off chances after coming out on top in a five-goal thriller against Brechin City at Glebe Park.

Ryan Wallace with a double, one from the penalty-spot and Dylan McGowan were on the mark for the Fifers.

City's play-off chances remain entirely within their own hands, but it's clear that they must pick up points in their remaining league fixtures - Forfar (H), Stenhousemuir (A) and Ayr United (H) if they are to clinch that still elusive play-off position.

Brechin had the better of an evenly contested first-half and made a couple of goal-scoring opportunities.

On-loan Aberdeen striker Mitch Megginson came close in the 19th minute when he fired in a shot which Michael Brown in the East Fife goal did well to save, and Megginson almost scored the opener five minutes before half-time when Brown again did well to deny him.

The visitors pushed forward on the restart and they scored the opening goal in the 51st minute when Dylan McGowan slotted home a Lloyd Young corner but City were level just a couple of minutes later when Jamie Redman fired home following a Neil Janczyk free-kick.

This goal gave City confidence and they grabbed the lead from the penalty-spot four minutes later when Craig Molloy converted after John Ovenstone had fouled Megginson.

The Fifers hit back straight away and they dramatically equalised from the spot in the 61st minute with Ryan Wallace sending Craig Nelson the wrong way after he had been fouled by Andrew Cook and Wallace won it for the visitors with eight minutes remaining when he cracked home a beauty from the edge of the box.
