Ayr United cemented their position in third spot after beating second-placed Brechin at Somerset Park.

A first half packed full of chances ended with Stuart Bannigan turning in Scott McLaughlin's cross from 12 yards.

Ayr doubled their lead 18 minutes after the restart as McLaughlin rose highest to powerfully head home Michael Moffat's delivery from the left.

Brechin striker Rory McAllister saw his effort from six yards rebound off the crossbar in the closing minutes.
