Brechin City 0 Arbroath 0

Match Report - By John Hoey

Brechin and Arbroath shared the spoils in a dull and uninspiring 0-0 draw at Glebe Park.

The result means that City remain in third place in the Irn Bru Second Division, just three points off leaders Cowdenbeath who have 24 points with Stirling Albion, also on 24 points in second place.

Richard Walker, Jon Seeley and Rory McAllister all made a return to the City team, but skipper Neil Janczyk was missing with a viral infection.

The opening 45 minutes were drab and dull with very little goalmouth action.

Arbroath had the first real chance of the match after 25 minutes when Craig Nelson did well to tip a shot from former City favourite Marc McCulloch over the bar, and at the other end, eight minutes later, Arbroath keeper Darren Hill denied City when he turned a McAllister thunderbolt round the post.

After the break, goalmouth chances were again few and far between but Alan Rattray did come close for the visitors in the 60th minute when he sent a header just past Nelson's left-hand post.

City were having a lot of possession but were finding it difficult to carve out any chances in front of goal although Gary Fusco fired in a 20 yard shot in the 73rd minute which Hill dealt with easily.

With time running out, most of the action was confined to the midfield area and a draw at the end of the day was probably a fair result.
