Brechin City make the trip north to face Buckie Thistle at Victoria Park tomorrow evening, as they look to build on Saturday’s hard-fought victory over league leaders Brora Rangers.
A disciplined and determined display at the weekend saw City claim a crucial three points, and they will be eager to carry that momentum into another important Highland League encounter.
With very little to separate the leagues top 5, City know the importance of maintaining the pressure at the summit. Confidence will be high after overcoming the league leaders, but the focus quickly turns to another stern test on the road.
Buckie currently sit eighth in the table and come into the match without a win in their last four outings. However, City will be well aware of the qualities the Jags possess.
TEAM NEWS
City will continue to be without Paul Watson and Kieran Inglis, whilst Brad McKay will sit out the first game of his 2-match suspension following his red card at the weekend. The rest of the squad should be available for selection.
MANAGERS COMMENTS
Reflecting on Saturday’s victory over Brora Rangers, Manager Andy Kirk commented, “I thought we started well but then the sending off changed the dynamic of the game. When it was 11 v 11 I thought we were slightly better although we made some poor decisions on the ball but we got the goal to put us a goal ahead.
“A poor decision in the middle of the park resulted in Brad’s tackle which saw him get sent off and it was a different game from that point. Brora put us under pressure and made us work. Going down to 10 men made it a real challenge for us but we defended situations well.
“For me, these scenarios build team spirit – we showed togetherness, worked hard and put in a enormous amount of effort to keep a clean sheet and earn the three points. We defended our box well and put our bodies on the line. We were always going to be under pressure as Brora are a good team and also had an extra player.
“I still think our game management and decision making could be a bit better but that will come once we have a run of games. It’s difficult for players to play a game one week then be without a fixture for another two. Overall I can’t fault the players as they were immense.
“It was the first time we’ve played at the Glebe since December so it was important for us to win the game to claw some points back and give ourselves a chance. We’ve got so many games coming up and many teams are the same – we just need to take one game at a time as you just don’t know what’s next.“

LAST TIME OUT
Despite going down to 10 men after just 21 minutes after Brad McKay saw red for a late challenge, City battled to record a crucial 1-0 win over league leaders Brora Rangers at the Carnegie Fuels Stadium at Glebe Park at the weekend.
City started brightly and deservedly took the lead on 14 minutes when a free kick from Fraser Macleod was headed home by Cillian Sheridan. McKay was then given his marching orders and although Brora had much of the possession and opportunities, they were unable to breach a stubborn City defence.
Buckie Thistle’s fixture against title-chasing Formartine United on Saturday was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at Victoria Park. Their last game came just under a fortnight ago as they played out a 0-0 draw at home to Turriff United.

City produced a commanding performance at the Carnegie Fuels Stadium at Glebe Park in the last meeting between the sides, making it 6 wins from the opening 6 league games with a thumping 5-0 win.
The hosts took control early, going ahead within the first five minutes through Grady McGrath and the on-loan striker grabbed his second seven minutes before the break to double the advantage. A headed goal from Cillian Sheridan made it 3-0 going in at half time.
City continued to dominate after the break; Mitch Taylor curled a superb 25 yard free-kick into the top corner to make it four before and substitute Craig Tosh added a fifth on 72 minutes to complete the emphatic win.
