BRECHIN City FC are delighted to announce the appointment of Jim Duffy as the club's new manager.
After a playing career that saw him make over 400 appearances in the SFL and SPL, Jim is in the Guinness Book of Records, for being appointed the youngest manager in the United Kingdom, after he took over at Falkirk in 1989.
Chairman Ken Ferguson said: " The Club has faced a testing time since Michael’s departure, the committee wished to ensure we found the right candidate to pick up from where Michael left off. We are delighted to welcome Jim Duffy to the Club. Jim brings a wealth of experience from both his playing days and of course an illustrious managerial career. I would like to thank everyone who applied for the job, we were quite amazed at the high quality of the applicants and it is a testament to Jim Duffy that he has been given the position. We look forward now to getting on with the business of firstly our Homecoming Cup Tie with St Mirren and getting our league campaign back on track. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Kevin McAllister and Grant Johnstone for looking after team affairs over the past few weeks.
Jim has remained working in football over the last two years through his work for the BBC and Setanta and more importantly the club feels his vast coaching and managerial experience at all levels of the game will be a valuable asset as Brechin City continue to strive towards their immediate goal of making the second division play-offs at the end of this season.
In 1995, he led Dundee to the League Cup Final and he is one of the most recognisable faces in Scottish football. Jim had two years as manager of Hibernian between 1996 and 1998.
Jim is a well-known figure throughout Scottish football having been the SPFA Player of the Year in 1985 while with Greenock Morton, in his first managerial role he led Falkirk to the runners-up spot in division one and in the 2002-2003 season, he led Dundee into a top six finish in the SPL. In the same season, Jim was named the BBC Manager of the Year and the club also qualified for the UEFA for the first time in three decades. His last post in Scotland was as first team coach at Hearts in 2006.
As well as his vast experience of the Scottish game at all levels, Jim also has experienced English football with stints as U19 coach/scout with Chelsea FC between 1998 and 2001 and as assistant manager of Portsmouth between 2001-2002. He also held the same position at Norwich City between 2006-2007.
Jim, who hails from Renfrew, will continue to work in the media on a full-time basis and Brechin City are delighted to have attracted such an outstanding candidate with great contacts at all levels of the game and like every previous incumbent of the manager's post at Glebe Park we are hopeful our supporters will give the new manager time to settle into his new role.
