Match Preview | Nairn County v Brechin City - By Steven Mew

After progressing in the Scottish Cup last weekend, attention returns back to the bread and butter of Highland League action as we make the journey to face Nairn County at Station Park tomorrow afternoon.

City will undoubtedly be looking to making it 4 wins on the bounce in all competitions against a Nairn County side that have made a marked improvement on last season, currently sitting in 7th place in the table.

Prior to their defeat to Turriff United in the Scottish Cup last weekend, the Wee County had been on an impressive run of 7 wins from 9 matches.

TEAM NEWS
It is hoped that City's injury list has eased from last week with the return of Craig Tosh to the squad, whilst there is a chance that skipper Euan Spark may be able to return. Craig Hepburn will also come into the side having been unavailable last week. Ray McKinnon will continue to be without the services of Brad McKay, Dayle Robertson, Adam Hutchinson and Dugald Farquhar.

MANAGERS COMMENTS
Following a comfortable 3-1 Scottish Cup victory over Dundonald Bluebell last weekend, Manager Ray McKinnon commented, "I was delighted with the victory in what was difficult conditions yet again. The wind was really strong in the first half so it was difficult for the guys to get the ball down and play.

"These are tough games and when the conditions are like that it can be a bit of a lottery. I went to watch Dundonald Bluebell recently against Sauchie and they are a good side with some really talented and experienced players - I knew they would make it difficult for us.

"We battled away in the first half and had a couple of chances that we probably should have scored. It was important that we took the game to them in the second half and that's what we did.

"Again I was disappointed with the goal we lost and felt we could have dealt with it 3 or 4 times before it happened but the main thing for us was to make sure we were in the hat for the next round."

PREVIOUS MEETING
Brechin City 3-0 Nairn County - 5th April 2025
City secured a comfortable victory over Nairn County in the penultimate league fixture of last season to ensure the Highland League Championship went down to the final day. Brad McKay opened the scoring on the half hour mark to put City ahead, before a Cillian Sheridan double just before the break more or less had the game sewn up by half time. City pushed for more goals in the second half, but they were unable to add to their tally.
