Brechin City 3 Airdrieonians 0

Match Report - By John Hoey

Brechin City 3 Airdrieonians 0

Brechin City leapfrogged Airdrie to go fourth in the League One table after a 3-0 win over the Diamonds at Glebe Park.

It was a third successive league victory for Darren Dods's men with Ally Love (2) and Andy Jackson scoring the goals which secured their win.

The game was over an hour late in kicking off after a number of Brechin City players were delayed because of an overturned vehicle on the Forth Road Bridge.

City boss Dods made just one change to the side that had beaten Queens Park and Peterhead with Aaron Lynas coming in for Willie Dyer.

Airdrie dominated the opening stages with Andy Ryan firing a couple of shot past the post within the first fifteen minutes and in the 20th minute City keeper Graeme Smith dived low to hold a Jack McKay header.

It was half an hour before City had their first shot on goal when a long-range effort from Gary Fusco went well over the bar and Ally Love had a drive palmed round the post by Diamonds keeper Rohan Ferguson five minutes later. The former Albion Rovers striker had better luck though on the stroke of half-time when he made room for himself in the Airdrie box only to be pushed in the back by Jordan McGregor. Referee David Lowe immediately pointed to the spot with Love duly blasting the spot-kick well beyond Ferguson.

City pushed forward after the break and they doubled their lead with a tremendous goal in the 63rd minute. A corner from the left was half cleared by the Diamonds defence only as far as Love who from 25 yards out unleashed a superb left-foot drive which soared into the roof of the net and Jackson put the icing on the cake for the hosts when he fired home goal number three five minutes from time.
