Brechin City 1 Dundee 0

Match Report - By John Hoey

Brechin City 1 Dundee 0

Brechin City overcame a young Dundee side including first team squad members James Vincent, Andrew Black, Yordi Teijsse and Kane Hemmings by 1-0 in last night's friendly at Glebe Park.

The visitors started brightly and they nearly grabbed the opener after just five minutes when a net-bound drive from Teijsse was blocked by Jamie Montgomery. (24)

The young Dark Blues continued to press and they came close again in the 17th minute when Vincent outpaced Dougie Hill and curled in a shot which was turned round the post by City keeper Graeme Smith.

City responded a minute later with a Finn Graham free-kick which was easily held by the visitors trialist keeper Calum Ferry.

City were coming more into things as the game progressed and they came close to opening the scoring in the 32nd minute when a great run and shot from Ally Love was tipped over the bar by Ferry. The young keeper was helpless seconds later though when Hill rose above the Dundee defence to power home a header from the resultant corner.

The Dark Blues hit back and a Vincent drive four minutes later was just inches over the bar.

The last chance of the half however came City's way on the stroke of half-time when Alan Trouten blasted the ball over the bar after a Love free-kick had been blocked.

The visitors started the second half on the attack and a Teijsse cross from the left was headed just past by Hemmings after five minutes.

Dundee threatened again four minutes later when a Vincent long-range effort was spilled by Smith before being cleared away by the home defence and shortly afterwards Jesse Curran drilled a right-foot drive just past Smith's right-hand post.

However, City nearly made it 2-0 in the 70th minute when Montgomery played a delightful pass through to Finn Graham who forced his way into the Dark Blues box before curling a shot just past the post and ten minutes later, Love fired a shot from the edge of the box inches last the target.

With a couple of minutes remaining, the hosts were awarded a penalty after Montgomery was pushed in the back by Taylor Berry but Ferry saved the youngster's spot-kick.
