Annan v Brechin Preview - By John Hoey

City manager Jim Weir will be down to the bare bones for tomorrow night’s trip to Annan in the third round replay of the Scottish Cup.

Central defender Gerry McGlauchlan is recovering from a double hernia operation and will miss out, and there is also a slight doubt about McGlauchlan’s defensive partner Ewan Moyes although the manager is hopeful that he’ll be in his usual place.

With loan players Calum Booth, Anthony Bolger and Paul Murooney having returned to their clubs and Charlie King still on the long-term injury list, the manager will only have 13/14 players at his disposal for tomorrow night’s cup-tie and may well have to draft in one or two youngsters to make up the numbers on the substitutes bench.

“ Gerry McGlauchlan is recovering from a double hernia operation and won’t be ready until late January,” said Jim.

“ Calum Booth who was also a regular in the team has gone back to Hibs which is a massive blow to the club. In addition, we have slight concerns over Ewan Moyes for tomorrow night although I’m hopeful he’ll be able to play.”

“ On the plus side, we will have David White coming back into the team but I’ll probably have to bring in one or two youngsters from the under 19 side to make up the numbers.”

“ Annan played really well in the first game at Glebe Park when we were very much under par and we will have to be at our very best tomorrow if we are to progress to the next round.”

“ We played really well in our last match against Peterhead when we won 5-0 and we’ll be looking to take that form into tomorrow’s match.”

With the transfer window open, there is now the possibility of new players coming to the club and the manager confirmed that there may be one or two new faces.

“ We certainly won’t have anyone new in the team for tomorrow’s game but I’m hopeful of adding one new player to the squad by the end of this week or the beginning of next and it may be possible to sign another player as well.”
