Popular central defender David White who suffered a horrendous leg-break last season has been handed a free transfer by the club and has joined Junior outfit Newtongrange Star.

After speaking to manager Jim Duffy it was decided that a free transfer was the best option for all parties and Davie will now be focusing on geting himself back to full fitness with his new club.

Speaking to Steve Mitchell of the Brechin Advertiser earlier this week Davie said, I was desperate to get back playing and I understand Jim Duffy's predicament completely.

"He has a team he wants to see win promotion and he isn't going to play me when I am 75 per cent fit.

"In the few days I have been away from Brechin I have already had John Coughlin at Stenhousemuir and Jim Weir from Arbroath checking out my availability.

"However, the one thing I won't do is go back and play at Second Division level until I am one hundred per cent fit and that is going to be after a good pre-season and into the start of next season.

"Jim Duffy hasn't slammed the door in my face though.

"He did say to me that if I get myself right there could be a place for me back at Brechin in the future.

"Nothing has been ruled in or out. I signed for Newtongrange and played for them in our one-nil Scottish Junior Cup victory over Larkhall Thistle in Glasgow, which gives us a place in the last 16.

"I was delighted to get back playing and, as I was starting to get down with my lack of games and people asking when I would be back. After the fracture I had a couple of niggly injuries.

"I played on Saturday and, while I am sore, I feel ok. There is the possibility that Tom Gilmartin may arrange a visit to Leicester for me for an injection, but only if I need it. I am hopeful that I can play without it, perhaps with the help of a few pain killers.

"I am 30 years old and I still think I can do a job in the seniors. I have an agreement with Newtongrange that if a senior club comes in for me, after I return to full fitness, then I will be allowed to move on.

"At the minute, however, I am concentrating on helping them in the league and getting as far as we possibly can in the Scottish Cup.

"I had a great relationship with the supporters at Brechin, who were brilliant to me in the eight years I played at the Glebe.

"I would like to think I gave them something in return too. A few promotions here and there.

"I'll never forget scoring the goal against Berwick Rangers that won promotion for us and I think it's been an unfortunate set of circumstances for me and Jim (Duffy) that saw me break my leg a week or so before he took the job. It has meant he hasn't had a chance to see me play.

"Often, in football, when one door closes another one opens and I am very positive about the future.

"However, I am going to ensure before I go anywhere else that it's a one hundred per cent Davie White who is available and that means playing regularly with Newtongrange and getting a top notch pre-season under my belt."
